Amy has enjoyed a fulfilling career teaching and learning locally and internationally. She currently offers public workshops for communities, coaches individuals and teams, and provides graduate level instruction in the arts, culture, and education.
Amy’s commitment to teaching and learning is rooted in community arts practice. Early in her career, she developed curriculum and educational programming for the Brasil Brasil Cultural Center, and reached communities through workshops and performances throughout California, the United States, and abroad. Her educational projects earned support from the California Arts Council, the Irvine Foundation, Los Angeles Division of Cultural Affairs, the National Endowment for the Arts, and national recognition on the Presidential Honor Roll for Service Learning.
Amy has mentored arts leaders in the community and in higher education and graduate and undergraduate levels. She served as Associate Professor and directed the M.A. in Arts Management Program that included developing community partnerships and designing global study programming in Africa, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East. Prior to that, she directed the Artsbridge Program at UCLA Arts where she taught for seven years serving as the UCLA Arts liaison to the Graduate School of Education and Information Sciences, spearheading a dance credential and coaching teachers. Her work connected emerging artists with students and teaching in LAUSD, Compton USD, Lynwood USD, Santa Monic USD and the University of California. Her work lay the groundwork for the first Visual and Performing Arts Education degree (VAPAE Minor) in the UC system earning a state commendation from the Governor of California.
Later, Amy served as a Visiting Scholar for the Center for Learning Through the Arts, Sciences, and Sustainability (CLASS) at UC Irvine where she studied public policy issues related to arts education while teaching courses for the Department of Education. She represented the State of California to the National Endowment for the Arts Educational Innovation Program, she was one of six founding members of CREATE CA, and she co-chaired the Equity and Inclusion Policy Work Group informing the Blueprint for Creative Schools with Dr. Mary Stone Hanley. Recently, she served as Consulting Producer for the award winning KCET / PBS So Cal documentary on Arts Education.
